April 14 is the birthday of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the father of Indian constitution. His full name is Bhimarao Ramji Ambedkar. He is also known as Babasaheb. Ambedkar Jayanti is observed and celebrated by both public and private organizations and is considered a public holiday throughout the country
Ambedkar spent his entire life fighting against social discrimination, the system of Chaturvarna - categorization of Hindu society into four Varna - and the Hindu caste system. He is also credited with providing a spark for the conversion of hundreds of thousands of Dalits with his Ambedkar Buddhism. Ambedkar has been honored with the Bharat Ratner, India's highest civilian honor.
He is also credited for having sparked the Dalit Buddhist movement. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was the Chairman Editorial Board, established by the Constituent Assembly to draft a constitution for independent India, he was also the first Law Minister of India.
Bhimrao Ambedkar Ramji was an Indian lawyer, political leader, Buddhist activist, philosopher, thinker, an anthropologist, historian, speaker, productive scholar, economist, researcher, editor, the revolutionary and a revivalist of Buddhism in India. He was also chief architect of Indian constitution.
People who follow Dr. Ambedkar celebrate this day as the festival of liberation and call it "Muktiparva." Thousands of Dr. Ambedkar supporters gathered in New Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur and other places to pay their tribute to Babasaheb. It was only because of his commitment to social equality is regarded as fundamental rights for the people of free India.
