Utkal Divas or Orissa Day 2010 Celebration

Utkal Divas is celebrated on 1st April in Odisha in the memory of the formation of the state as a separate province on 1st April, 1936. On 74th anniversary of the creation of the State ( on Thursday, Prime Minister Dr Monmohan Singh and President Pratibha Devisingh Patil wished people of Odisha all success and prosperity.

Shri S. K. Mishra, the President of GOS quoted, ‘Utkal Divas is a sacred and significant day for the people of Odisha. The relentless struggle of the visionary leaders of Orissa for the formation of a separate province on the basis of language was realized on 1st April 1936 and Orissa was emerged as the first language based State in the country. It is a great coincidence to celebrate the diamond jubilee celebration of Odisha state in the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Gujarat State.”

Governor of Gujarat, Dr. Shrimati Kamla is the Chief Guest of the event and he will inaugurate the programme on 1st April 2010 at 7.00 pm. Meanwhile, Shri R. N. Das the Chief Information Commissioner, Government of Gujarat will be the guest of honour whereas Shri Ishwarsing T. Patel, Parliamentary Secretary, Culture, Govt of Gujarat will grace the occasion as the Guest Speaker.
The Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik also greeted the residents of the state on Utkal Divas and wished them all the best for the coming days. He is supposed to inaugurate a function today to celebrate the occasion today. It became a separate state on the basis of linguistics under the British rule in 1936. The state is known for some of the most reputed aesthetic works of art and sculpture existing in India.
