Enes Kanter to warning letter with Kentucky

Evan Daniels of Scout.com is reporting that Swiss/Turkish import Enes Kanter, who has played this season in California, has committed to John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats

The Seattle Times can be reporting the story, saying they received a call from the reporter in Louisville who said the story looks to become legitimate.

Per NCAA principles, the Kentucky coaches aren’t acknowledging the statement, but because the reporter told the Seattle Occasions: “There’s plenty of happy people in Lexington.”

Obviously this is fantastic news for the ‘Cats, especially given that many are speculating that UK could lose its top three big man in Patrick Patterson, DeMarcus Cousins, and Daniel Orton to the NBA. Kanter will provide a major post presence with an NBA level game and a little bit of range on his outside shot to go with it.

I am a big fan of Kanter. Along with Brandon Knight and Terrence Jones, he is a guy that has been on my wish list ever since I found out about his decommitment from Washington. The one concerning part about Kanter is whether he will qualify to play without a suspension. However, when the NCAA handed down a ruling in January allowing players like Kanter who maintain their amateur status while playing on the same teams as professional players to qualify more easily, UK turned up the heat. It culminated in a March visit to Lexington and now a commitment.

I personally thought we would have to wait until April to wait for the recruiting dominoes to begin to fall, but I am ecstatic to learn of UK’s second 2010 commitment in the middle of an NCAA Tournament run!
